The Apophyllite and Stilbite mineral combinations are often found in volcanic rocks and basalt cavities, where they form as secondary minerals in geodes and vugs.
The Apophyllite composition is KCa4Si8O20(F,OH)·8H2O (hydrated potassium calcium silicate fluoride). Tetragonal crystal system. Stilbite composition is NaCa4Al9Si27O72·28H2O (hydrated sodium calcium aluminum silicate). Monoclinic crystal system. Both have a perfect in one direction cleavage.
Apophyllite colors are typically clear or colorless, but can also be green, yellow, pink, or brown which is similar to Stilbite's colors that are typically white or colorless but can also be pink, yellow, red, green, or brown.
Significant deposits are located in regions such as India, Iceland and United States.
