Stilbite is a common and perhaps the most popular zeolite mineral for collectors. Stilbite crystals can aggregate together to form a structure resembling wheat sheafs. Stilbite commonly forms nice crystals inside the petrified bubbles (called vesicles) of volcanic rocks that have undergone a small amount of metamorphism.
Chemical composition: NaCa4Al9Si27O72·28H2O (hydrated sodium calcium aluminum silicate). Monoclinic crystal system with a 3.5-4 on the Mohs scale. Vitreous to pearly luster and colors ranging from typically white, but can also be colorless, pink, yellow, red, green, or brown.
Major deposits of stilbite are located in Iceland, India (especially in the Maharashtra region), the Faroe Islands, and the United States (notably in Oregon and New Jersey).
