Smoky Quartz (SiO₂) is a variety of quartz that ranges in color from light gray to deep brown and black. It is often found in granite pegmatites, which are coarse-grained igneous rocks that form during the final stages of magma crystallization. They are known for containing large crystals and a variety of minerals, including: Quartz, Feldspar, Mica, Tourmaline and Beryl.
Brazil, Switzerland, Madagascar and US are notable regions where you can find these combinations of minerals.
Typically forms hexagonal prisms with a vitreous luster with a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale.
