Heulandite is commonly found in volcanic rocks, particularly in basaltic lava flows. It often occurs in cavities and geodes, forming attractive crystal clusters. Significant deposits of heulandite are found in India, Iceland, the United States, and several other locations worldwide. The Deccan Traps in India are particularly famous for producing high-quality heulandite specimens.
Its crystals typically form in a monoclinic system and exhibit a range of colors, including white, yellow, pink, red, green, and brown. They have a vitreous to pearly luster and are usually translucent to transparent. It has perfect cleavage in one direction, which can make it challenging to handle without causing damage to the crystals.
