Green fluorite (CaF₂) is a calcium fluoride mineral that is valued for its beautiful green color and crystal clarity. It is commonly found in a wide range of geological environments and is used in both industrial applications and as a gemstone and collector's mineral.
The most common variety is violet, but fluorite may also be yellow, green, white, blue, gray, black or exhibit a variety of colors in zones or bands. Often associated with other minerals such as quartz, calcite, and sulfides. The name "fluorite" comes from the Latin word "fluere," meaning "to flow," in reference to its use in the production of hydrofluoric acid, as a flux in steelmaking, and in the manufacture of opalescent glass and enamels.
Notable localities are Mexico, US, China and South Africa. It has a hardness of 4 on the Mohs scale with a vitreous luster and is transparent to translucent.
