Clear apophyllite KCa₄Si₈O₂₀(F,OH)·8H₂O (potassium calcium silicate fluoride hydrate) crystals combined with white stilbite NaCa₂Al₅Si₁₃O₃₆·14H₂O (hydrated calcium sodium aluminum silicate) create stunning and aesthetically pleasing mineral specimens. These minerals are often found together in basalt cavities, where they form intricate and beautiful crystal clusters.
These minerals form in similar geological environments, often in cavities within basaltic lava flows where mineral-rich hydrothermal fluids precipitate the crystals. Both apophyllite and stilbite belong to the zeolite group of minerals, known for their porous structures and ability to absorb water.
The Deccan Traps in Maharashtra, India are famous for producing some of the finest apophyllite and stilbite specimens. Other regions it can be found are Iceland, Canada and New Jersey USA.
