Aegirine-augite feldspar is a unique mineral assemblage combining the characteristics of aegirine and feldspar.
Aegirine is a member of the pyroxene group, crystallizing in the monoclinic system. Aegirine crystals are typically prismatic, elongated, and can be found in fibrous or acicular forms. They have a hardness of 6 on the Mohs scale and two directions of cleavage at nearly 90 degrees. Aegirine is commonly dark green to black in color. It can also exhibit shades of brown and, less commonly, reddish-brown due to variations in its iron content.
Feldspars are a group of rock-forming minerals that make up a significant portion of the Earth's crust. They crystallize in the triclinic or monoclinic system. Feldspar minerals have two directions of perfect cleavage that intersect at nearly right angles and a hardness of 6-6.5 on the Mohs scale. Feldspars can be found in a wide range of colors, including white, gray, pink, red, orange, and green.
